Traditional dry construction systems based on plasterboards, due to the chemical and physical properties of gypsum, are not intended for use outside buildings or in high humidity environments. Knauf AQUAPANEL® cement boards are as easy to process as plasterboards, and at the same time resistant to water and weather conditions.

In external applications, the Knauf AQUAPANEL® board is a good alternative to traditional building materials used for the construction of external walls and facades. This product is ideal for performing various renovation works, e.g. facades, as well as for making various elements in newly constructed buildings – rustication of facades, covering balcony railings.
The Knauf AQUAPANEL® Outdoor panel, designed for outdoor use, is most often used in facade systems or as a base for structural plaster. It can also be perfectly used for chimney covers, creating light balcony and terrace balustrades, soffits, facade battens, coverings of building bases, external walls of pavilions and single-family houses built using frame technologies. The use of Knauf AQUAPANEL® boards for the construction of external walls instead of traditional materials such as bricks or blocks allows for a significant increase in the internal surface area, while maintaining the same level of thermal and acoustic insulation.

CONSTRUCTION, PROCESSING AND INSTALLATION OF BOARDS
The Knauf AQUAPANEL cement board outdoor board consists of a lightweight concrete core, reinforced on both sides with a glass fiber mesh. This board construction allows for easy processing and installation. The processing of this product is very similar to the installation of an ordinary plasterboard, which means that the correct installation of the Knauf AQUAPANEL® cement board cladding is practically effortless for the contractor. The cement board can be cut with an ordinary knife and broken. The product does not require pre-drilling – Knauf AQUAPANEL® is screwed directly to the wooden or metal structure.
WATERPROOF PROPERTIES
AQUAPANEL cement board exterior board is an extremely durable building material for interior, exterior and floor applications. This strong, rigid board does not swell, soften, deteriorate, delaminate or fall apart under the influence of water. The product is resistant to fungi and mold.
Knauf AQUAPANEL systems are designed for use both outdoors and indoors in rooms such as swimming pools, saunas, baths, or industrial kitchens. AQUAPANEL® cement boards are very durable and completely waterproof, and at the same time much lighter and thinner than traditional building materials.

Does Aquapanel Outdoor need to be filled on the entire surface of the facade?
Yes, the surface of the AQUAPANEL® Outdoor board needs to be finished. The board’s finish gives many possibilities. Aquapanel boards can be:
- smoothly filled and painted,
- plastered with structural plaster,
- covered with ceramic or stone cladding (up to 40 kg/m2).
Remember that filling the elevation of buildings is possible, but the plaster can only be applied to lime-cement plasters.
Are Knauf Aquapanel boards greenbuilding?
Yes, Knauf AQUAPANEL cement boards are considered ecological and compliant with the principles of sustainable construction, i.e. the so-called “green building”. The board core is based on cement reinforced with a glass fiber mesh, which ensures its full resistance to water. This is a modern construction solution, both technically and ecologically.
Do Knauf Aquapanel boards contain formaldehyde, VOCs?
Knauf AQUAPANEL cement boards® are made of a mineral core, a Portland cement coating and are reinforced with a glass fiber mesh. They do not contain organic materials, which suggests that they also do not contain formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is an organic compound that is often found in some building materials, such as chipboard or MDF boards. An additional advantage of the fact that Knauf Aquapanel facade boards are not organic is that they also do not contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition, Knauf has received the EMICODE® certificate, which is awarded to low-emission building materials by the renowned, international organization GEV based in Germany. GEV specializes in controlling emissions of volatile organic compounds in products used in construction. During the production of Knauf materials distinguished by the EMICODE EC1 PLUS mark, no harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are used, so you don’t have to worry that you are inhaling toxic substances that are dangerous to your health.
