That’s when you fully benefit from the numerous advantages of such a facade solution. Living in buildings with ventilated facades is simply more comfortable. They create conditions that foster a pleasant atmosphere inside, and this isn’t just about aesthetics. Buildings with ventilated facades heat up and cool down less, without the temperature swings caused by external weather conditions. Additionally, such buildings do not have indoor moisture, preventing the formation of mold or mildew, which are very harmful to residents’ health.

ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder

Properties of modern ventilated facades with panels.

All these benefits stem from the fact that beneath the outer panel cladding, regardless of whether it’s fiber cement, HPL, stone, sintered quartz, Rockpanel, or any other cladding, there is a ventilation space known as a ventilation chimney. This space typically measures 2 to 3 cm, allowing air to constantly circulate.

When it’s very hot outside and the sun’s rays heat the building’s walls, only the façade panel heats up in the case of a ventilated facade. Its heat does not penetrate the building’s thermal insulation layer. Instead, it is released into the air in the ventilation chimney and expelled through specially designed ventilation openings. In cold weather, this process occurs in the opposite manner. Very cold air does not reach the thermal insulation, instead accumulating on the outer layer of the façade panel.

Moreover, we eliminate the condensation of water vapor on the inner side of the building’s exterior wall. All the building’s moisture is expelled through the ventilation chimney space beneath the panel. This prevents water vapor condensation and prevents the formation of mold and mildew, creating a very healthy living environment.

Additionally, for ventilated facades, mineral wool is typically used as insulation, which allows moisture to escape from the building and does not create a so-called airtight thermos effect, which is unhealthy for living.

Besides the technical benefits of a ventilated facade, there is also the aesthetic aspect. There is a vast array of claddings for ventilated facades. From panels creating the impression of a cozy and pleasant home, such as wood-like claddings like HPL Trespa, Max Exterior, Krono, Prodema, Rockpanel, or even natural wood for facades, to panels with a raw, modern, decadent character like concrete panels Fibre C or Concreate, fiber-cement panels like Equitone – Euronit, Cembrit, to stone claddings, composite panels, facade meshes, facade blinds, and many others.

Each material offers a wide range of colors, textures, applications, cutting, and installation possibilities. Buildings can be created with a modern, timeless, raw, or cozy character, with a surreal or natural appearance. They are always unique, one-of-a-kind buildings that stand out and distinguish themselves from the mass of deceptively similar commercial projects.

ngg_shortcode_1_placeholder

Durability of a Ventilated Facade

An additional advantage of modern ventilated facades made of panels is the fact that they do not require additional maintenance during the building’s operation. Such panels never need to be impregnated or painted. This is significant in single-family housing because, firstly, any additional work on the facade involves additional costs. Secondly, renovating the facade involves setting up scaffolding around the building, which can completely devastate a well-maintained garden, and restoring it to its pre-renovation state can take years. Acoustic insulation: Ventilated facades provide high acoustic insulation, which can contribute to increased comfort for residents. Possibility of installation in lower temperatures: Ventilated facades can be installed even in lower temperatures. Quick replacement of damaged facade parts: In case of damage, individual parts of the ventilated facade can be quickly replaced.

ngg_shortcode_2_placeholder

Ventilated facades are increasingly appreciated in architectural competitions worldwide. Here are some examples:

International “SAINT-GOBAIN Architecture Student Contest”: This is an international competition for architecture students where participants are required to design a housing estate. In this competition, projects using modern building technologies, such as ventilated facades, are often appreciated.

Competition for the development of an urban-architectural concept for the New Center of Hajnówka: In this competition, participants are required to design a new city center. Ventilated facades are often used in projects submitted to this competition.

Student architectural competition “Ventilated Facades in Practice”: This competition is aimed at architecture students and focuses on the practical application of ventilated facades.
